Canadian Delegation to Meet China’s Largest E-commerce Companies

As part of PIJAC Canada’s ongoing mission to help member businesses successfully expand into new markets, this week we will be leading a delegation of nine association member companies on a trade mission to Shanghai, China.

The team is scheduled to visit multiple retail locations around the city to immerse themselves in the pet retail environment.  Delegates will be speaking to business owners about trends, buying behaviours of Asian pet families, merchandising and strategies attract buyers in this market  . Members will also be joining an estimated 50,000 visitors attending the 21st annual China International Pet Show (CIPS).  The show boast products from 1,500 exhibitors from 85 countries.

New this year will be a special meeting set up by the Canadian Consulate in Shanghai between mission members and two major players in the Chinese e-commerce industry:

  • Tmall GlobalTmall Global is Alibaba’s cross-border e-commerce platform for foreign brands without a local (Chinese) business entity to sell directly to Chinese consumers.
  • Kaola.comKaola.com is a Hangzhou based e-commerce platform under Netease Group, one of the biggest internet companies in China.

Both Tmall Global and Kaola are leading cross-border e-commerce platforms in China and combined taking up 45% of the market share.

We wish a prosperous journey to the Canadian delegation as they journey across the globe to explore expanding their Canadian business abroad.
