A Family Affair at Critter Jungle
PIJAC Canada is located in Ottawa, Ontario which is home to some great independent pet businesses. Critter Jungle is a pet food and pet supplies destination with two locations in the city and has been in business for 32 years. We recently had the pleasure of visiting the Carling location just before the holidays to learn more about their business model and how they serve the Ottawa community.
Brothers Kelvin and Jeff Stanke own and operate the two locations along with their families. They opened their second location in Orleans almost four years ago and they recently renovated their Carling location. Critter Jungle truly is a family run operation which frequently includes the family dog.
Critter Jungle is huge supporter of pet rescue and adoption and they support this by providing space in-store for the Cat Rescue Network where cats are housed until adopted. They also hold events through the year to raise awareness and funds for pet rescue organizations. Pet food and supplies from Critter Jungle are also donated to help these animals until they find their forever home!
Critter Jungle has one of the biggest bird supply selections in the city – they have fish, birds, reptiles and small animals at the Carling location and the Orleans location focuses solely on supplies. They have very knowledgeable staff in each department to ensure customers get all the right information and make the right choices when selecting products or pets.
Being an independent retailer can be tough when competing with the big box stores. Critter Jungle has competed due to their excellent customer service and pet knowledge. The Critter Jungle family works hard to find the absolute best products available, so that their customers get exactly what they need. They also have an on-site team of animal experts to answer their customer’s questions from puppy training to advanced reptile and aquarium care. The employees at Critter Jungle are helpful and will not sell you just any product, but will take the time to make sure it’s the right product for your needs. Also, at Critter Jungle all police officers, firefighters, paramedics, Mounties, military personnel, and veterans receive 10% off store products.
